Haiti COVID-19

There are a number of reasons why Haiti is losing the COVID battle:

  1.  There are not enough physical hospital size oxygen tanks in the country for the various centers treating COVID patients.

St. Luke's needs about 800 additional tanks, each tank is about $300, but then we need to figure out how to get the tanks airlifted to Haiti/the hospital.  Currently St. Luke's is refilling 360 tanks a day at $19/tank - that's about $7,000/day.

  2.  â€‹It is not easy to get liquid oxygen delivered to Haiti for conversion to gas oxygen by the industrialists who sell oxygen.

Much of the oxygen is going to other countries and even tankers for sea transport are scarce for the same reason.  O2 generating capacity is small in Haiti because it is costly, fuel wise, so it is not produced in Haiti on any grand scale.  Liquid oxygen is the only economical way to get oxygen on a large scale.

St. Luke's has been able to produce double their original capacity (80 tanks/day instead of 40 tanks/day) but needs 400 tanks/day to adequately treat patients.  Additionally, GANG WARS interfere with both the production and pickup as the government cannot secure the production sites.

  3.  Haiti urgently needs to get people vaccinated.

St. Luke's could commit to attempt to vaccinate 50,000 people if they are able to get vaccines.

  4.  Additional COVID treatment options are needed.

Haiti needs access to Remdesivir and the ability to take full advantage of myocolonal antibodies.

Any help, either financially or the ability to connect solutions to the issues, would be greatly appreciated.
